Concerned about contraception? The Administration is too.
In response to concerns that the religious exemption from the ACA requirement that group health insurance provide free contraceptive services for women, on February 6th the Administration published a proposed rule that would make two changes to the religious exemption. First, the proposed rule amends the criteria for the religious employer exemption to ensure that an otherwise exempt employer plan is not disqualified because the employer’s purpose extends beyond the inculcation of religious value or because the employer hires or service people of different religious faiths. Second, the proposed rule creates an accommodation for the religious objection while still providing the free preventive services coverage for women.
It is the Administration’s belief that “this proposal would not expand the universe of employer plans that would qualify for the exemption beyond that which was intended in the 2012 final rules.” Read more about the proposed rule
